Dr. John Walsh shares the findings of past and current research that examines
societal attitudes towards apprenticeship. Has anything changed? Where are we headed? Where do we go from here? How will
efforts such as the CAF-FCA/SCC project Promoting Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship influence this?
In this session employers and industry
representatives discussed their commitment to apprenticeship and provided perspectives as
to why investing in apprenticeship is important. They discussed the value and benefits of
apprenticeship along with the challenges they face.
This session examined the complexity surrounding the
issue of skills and labour shortages, and highlighted a variety of thought-provoking views
on this important topic.

This session discussed the cost of apprenticeship
by looking at needs and proposals relative to funding apprenticeship. It focused on some
recommendations or ideas that may address specific funding challenges.
This session explored perspectives and approaches
in the determination of compulsory or voluntary trades and examined the impact these
decisions have on apprenticeship. The presenters shared considerations that come into
play in the decision-making process.
This session will examine the lessons learned throughout the many transformations
of apprenticeship training in New Brunswick over the past 60 years. It will highlight the direction in which
apprenticeship training in New Brunswick is moving and the reasons why.
This presentation examined the requirements and needs of business and labour in
terms of maintaining pan-Canadian standards while ensuring portability and mobility among workers, and discussed what
steps could be taken to further them.
