CAF-FCA GIVES BIRTH TO A BRAND NEW JOURNAL

[CAF-FCA GIVES BIRTH TO A BRAND NEW JOURNAL]

Ottawa, March 11, 2010 - The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum – Forum canadien sur l’apprentissage (CAF-FCA) is pleased to announce the publication of the first issue of the Canadian Apprenticeship Journal – Journal canadien de l’apprentissage (CAJ-JCA).

This exciting new venture will offer readers the opportunity to become engaged in discussions on current and topical issues in apprenticeship and certification at a national level. It offers both research articles and human interest stories that reach out to a broad audience with the aim to have something for everyone.

The Journal will appeal to researchers in the field of apprenticeship studies, policy-makers, employers, representatives from labour, sector councils, provincial, territorial and federal governments as well as international apprenticeship bodies.

The research focus of this first issue is Return on Training Investment (ROTI). Readers will learn how the findings from CAF-FCA‘s ROTI studies are supported by similar studies completed elsewhere in the world such as New Zealand and Switzerland.

A Backgrounder on Apprenticeship in Canada provides an overview of research that has been completed on apprenticeship training in Canada.

This issue also includes feature pieces: Journeys and Destinations for New Apprentices plus a profile of a young apprentice.

Issue #1 will be available today in print or online at www.caj-jca.ca Print copies will be distributed at upcoming events attended by CAF-FCA. You may also write to us at info@caf-fca.org to request that a copy be mailed to you. The Journal has been designed to stimulate dialogue and discussion within the Canadian apprenticeship community. Have a look at a copy and let us know what you think. Maybe one day you will be featured in these pages yourself!

Funded by the Government of Canada’s Sector Council Program, CAF-FCA is the only inclusive national body that brings together all players in apprenticeship training. CAF-FCA works under the guidance of its Board of Directors, who represent every aspect of the apprenticeship community. Our work has brought to light a number of key issues that affect apprenticeship training - such as perceived barriers to training; the business case for apprenticeship; and the importance of promoting apprenticeship training as a valued and respected choice for post-secondary education.
