THE SECOND ISSUE OF CAJ-JCA IS RELEASED
CAF-FCA invites YOU to be part of the Dialogue!

Ottawa, July 8, 2010 - The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum – Forum canadien sur l’apprentissage (CAF-FCA) is pleased to release the second issue of the Canadian Apprenticeship Journal – Journal canadien de l’apprentissage (CAJ-JCA) online at www.caj-jca.ca.

Check out our latest addition to the Journal, What’s New in Apprenticeship Research?, to get an overview of some of the more recent research on apprenticeship training and certification that has been done in Canada and around the world. This section provides readers with brief descriptions of the papers, articles and reports and the links through which they can be accessed.

If you know of other current or forthcoming research that would be of interest to the apprenticeship community, or if you have any suggestions on the format for this new section, please contact Danielle at danielle_matheusik@caf-fca.org.

CAF-FCA’s goal is to share a wide range of perspectives on various topics in apprenticeship and certification. Some highlights in this second issue of the Journal include:

• A keynote interview on the importance of apprenticeship training from a business standpoint featuring Don Oborowsky, President of Waiward Steel Fabricators Ltd.
• The Canadian Automotive Repair and Service Council (CARS) talks to us about what is happening in the automotive industry’s labour market.
• And not to be missed, we will feature another international study that demonstrates the positive return for employers who invest in apprentices – this time from the U.K.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to submit an article for our third issue! This one will focus on completion in apprenticeship and, to provoke some initial thinking in this area, we are including the article, “Research Approaches to Understanding Apprenticeship Completion Rates”, in this second issue.

We encourage you to consider the insights offered and hope it will spark your interest in learning more about this challenging and complex topic in the Fall 2010 edition of the Journal. You may even be inspired to submit your own article for consideration!

To do so, simply respond to our Call for Articles on Completion in Apprenticeship. Take the opportunity to share findings and inform the dialogue on apprenticeship in Canada by contributing to this unique peer-reviewed e-journal. We will be accepting research papers and feature articles for consideration for the third issue of the Journal until Monday, August 9, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. PDT. The Canadian Apprenticeship Journal is a venue for presenting high-quality, relevant research and informative feature articles, and creating a forum for discussion and debate in the apprenticeship community on a national level. Both national and international submissions will be considered. Researchers, educators, policy analysts and key decision makers who focus on apprenticeship training and certification issues including the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA), Sector Councils, provincial/territorial government apprenticeship authorities, employer and labour associations, as well as international apprenticeship bodies may contribute to and be the audience for the CAJ. This second issue is available only online at www.caj-jca.ca.
