OTTAWA – September 30, 2009 - It’s a matter of fact … Apprenticeship training is, and always has been the main route to industry-standard certification in almost 300 trades and occupations. It’s a matter of money … Employers who hire apprentices report that, on average, their value exceeds their training costs by the end of the second year. It’s a matter of choice … Apprenticeship trains a new generation of highly-skilled and certified journeypersons who will be crucial to our global competitiveness. In response to an ongoing concern about the lack of information about how apprenticeship works, the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum-Forum canadien sur l’apprentissage (CAF-FCA) has launched Apprenticeship 101; a webcast featuring presentations on “Apprenticeship Basics”, “The Business Case for Apprenticeship” and “An Overview of Canada’s Apprenticeship Systems” Joe Black, Chair of the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship and a guest speaker at Apprenticeship 101 says “Apprenticeship is all about developing a new generation of workers. When looking at the demographics of people working in trades, it is obvious that there is a major gap. There are “old folks” – many of whom are no longer working in the trade – and there are younger people with a gap in the middle. Employers recognize that.” For further information on the webinar or on CAF-FCA’s Apprenticeship 101 workshops, please contact Danielle Matheusik at 613-235-4004 ext. 203 or danielle_matheusik@caf-fca.org This project was funded by the Government of Canada’s Sector Council Program. CAF-FCA is the only inclusive national body that brings together all the players in Canada’s apprenticeship community. A not-for-profit organization, CAF-FCA works under the guidance of its Board of Directors who represent stakeholders in apprenticeship including business, labour, education, provincial/territorial apprenticeship boards, and equity-seeking groups. ![]() March 23, 2011
