Apprenticeship 101

On Friday, March 6, 2009, CAF-FCA and the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA) hosted an Apprenticeship 101 breakfast session in Mississauga, welcoming close to 60 participants from the Southwestern Ontario region. Guest speakers Doug Muir (Inter-Provincial Alliance of Board Chairs), Emily Arrowsmith (CAF-FCA) and Joe Black (Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship) provided informative presentations on Apprenticeship Basics, The Business Case for Apprenticeship Training, and Apprenticeship in Canada: A Public and Private Sector Partnership. It was a full morning with many networking and information-sharing opportunities.

Apprenticeship 101 was originally developed in response to an identified need by Sector Councils and other key apprenticeship stakeholders to learn more about apprenticeship training as the main route to certification in most skilled trades, and about the 13 jurisdictional systems. The March 6 event was a successful follow-up to the first workshop co-hosted by CAF-FCA and The Alliance of Sector Councils (TASC) in Ottawa on Wednesday, October 22, 2008.
